Cliff has been practicing law in the District of Columbia Metropolitan area for more than thirty years. While Cliff’s primary focus has been civil litigation and trial work, he has also counseled businesses in contract and lease negotiations, including, but not limited to, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s), Master Service Agreements (MSA’s), partnering agreements, vendor agreements, complex service provider agreements, and commercial leases. Cliff’s litigation and trial experience include, but are not limited to general business, real property, and asset management litigation and counseling in private practice, construction, commercial and personal injury litigation, real property, title insurance, civil disputes, and general insurance coverage litigation. Cliff’s trial experience includes first-chair jury, bench and administrative trials numbering at least 150, including first chair jury trials numbering approximately 75. Cliff has also participated in countless ADR’s including mediations and binding arbitrations. Needless to say, Cliff has participated in hundreds of depositions.

Cliff is a 1988 graduate of the Wake Forest University Law School, and a 1983 graduate of Denison University with a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing. Cliff is licensed in the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia and has appeared pro hac vice in Virginia courts.  Cliff previously served on the Wake Forest Law School Board of Visitors from 2012 through 2015.  As of September 2020, Cliff was appointed as a member of the Wake Forest Board of Visitors.  Cliff has handled numerous appeals, at least 10 of which have resulted in reported decisions.

Cliff views his relationships with clients as “long term.” He has been known to say “most of my good clients become good friends.”
